The Annual Canadian Futures Showcase held at the Rogers Centre in Toronto features the top 150 players from across the country with 11 players from Dawgs Academy, showcasing their skills, drawing attention from scouts at the professional and collegiate level.
Tim Piasentin was hot all weekend at the plate. In the showcase event, Piasentin earned the second highest exit velocity at 104.9 mph. Piasentin would go on to win the HR Derby while batting .333 during game play with 1 double and 3 RBIs.
Landon Kauffman, known for his versatility, impressed in the outfield, on the mound and at the plate. Kauffman pitched 3 innings without allowing a run on 1 hit while racking up 4 strikeouts. During the showcase event, Kauffman was clocked at 93 mph from the outfield. At the plate, he collected 1 double with 3 RBI.
Quincy Jenkins showed very well on both sides of the ball. In 9 ABs, Jenkins hit 3 singles with 3 RBI while stealing 3 bases.
Taye Thierman was solid defensively behind the plate while batting .250 on the weekend.
Will Labonte pitched 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out 6.
Matthew Tran pitched 3 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts.
Max Poirier pitched 2 innings with 3 strikeouts allowing 1 run on 1 hit.
Austin Collins pitched 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 2.
Robert Scalzo was lights out in 2 innings pitched with 0 runs, 0 hits and 6 strikeouts.
Preston Tocheniuk pitched 2 innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 3.
