Congratulations to our Dawgs 18U Red team on winning the Kelowna Spring Invitational Tournament hosted by the Okanagan Athletics and Okanagan College Jr Coyotes in Kelowna April 4 – 7.
The Dawgs went 2-1 in pool play, beating the Chilliwack Cougars by a score of 9-1 and the Coquitlam Reds 6-5 to earn a spot in the semi-finals where they would take on the host team- Okanagan Athletics.
Semi-final game vs Okanagan Athletics (Dawgs win 12-3)
The Dawgs bats were relentless tallying 14 hits including 7 doubles- Cam Gerla (2), Zack Bedard (2), Bodie Bazillion, Tye Carrier and Turner Zdunich. On the mound, Kingston Besuijen pitched 4 innings of 2 hit baseball allowing 2 unearned runs while collecting 5 strikeouts. Jack Lussier closed out the final 2 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 1.
Championship game vs North Shore Twins (Dawgs win 5-3)
After defeating the Okanagan A’s in the semi-finals to punch their ticket to the championship, the Dawgs would take on one of the BCPBL’s top teams- North Shore Twins.
In tightly contested game, the Dawgs came out on top winning 5-3. Santiago Rodriguez got the start and worked 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 1 strikeout. Patriks Ludviks and Tyson Wedge chipped in out of the bullpen with Wedge pitching 3.2 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts. Offensively, the Dawgs tallied 8 hits with Cam Gerla hitting a double and Avery Deisroth a triple. Jack Lussier went 2-for-2 with 2 singles while Kayden Myslicki, Pryor Woollett and Cas Herold all chipped in with singles.
