The Dawgs Academy has been the victim of a long Alberta winter this year! So far, there have been a total of 16 games cancelled on the season, but Spring is just around the corner. Tourmaline field has been cleared of snow on the infield for several days now, and Dawgs players have been taking advantage of the warmer weather and getting plenty of reps on- field with the coaching staff. Despite the lack of outdoors reps, the Dawgs Coaching staff anticipates that the boys will be ready to go. In response to the poor weather conditions, Black Head Coach Val Helldobler had this to say:
“Although we have not been outdoors or seen any different competition, the indoor facilities have allowed us to throw live and field ground balls live off the bat. Albeit, you cannot replicate game reps against another team indoors, our hitters, pitchers and infielders are as prepared as possible given the circumstances”
The Dawgs 18U Black and 18U Red are both set to open up their season starting April 5th at the Okanagan Invitational Tournament in Kelowna, BC. Competition for the Black team starts Thursday evening when they square off against the Okanagan A’s; 18U Red opens up Friday morning against the Victoria Mariners.
