OKOTOKS, AB — The Okotoks Dawgs are pleased to announce that The Road to Okotoks National Championship will return to Okotoks from Tuesday, July 27 through Sunday, August 1, 2027.
The inaugural championship in 2026 was a tremendous success, bringing many of the best teams and players in Canadian amateur baseball together in one location for a true best-on-best national competition. The hosts, Okotoks Dawgs 18U Black, made history by winning the inaugural championship and becoming the first team to raise the Morneau Cup.
“As hosts, the Dawgs’ goal with the inaugural Road to Okotoks was to provide participating teams a quality of championship that they had never before experienced,” said John Ircandia, Dawgs Founding and Managing Director. “We knew with Seaman Stadium and Tourmaline Field there were no better facilities. We knew that this was the place for current MLB standouts Tristan Peters and Matt “Tugboat “Wilkinson honed their skills. And we were thrilled that the thousands of fans who attended the Road saw firsthand the extraordinary level of baseball being played from coast to coast in our country. Road to Okotoks, Year 2 will be bigger and better!”
Presented in partnership with Baseball Canada, the 2027 national championship will once again bring together 16 of Canada’s top 19U academy teams for a week of elite competition at the Seaman Stadium Complex. Teams will compete for the Morneau Cup, named in honour of Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer and former American League Most Valuable Player Justin Morneau.
Participating teams will earn their places in the championship through regional qualifying tournaments across the country from Thursday, May 27 to Sunday, May 30, 2027. The national tournament will once again feature many of the country’s top amateur players and programs, continuing its mission of providing high-level competition and development opportunities within Canada.
Games will be played at Seaman Stadium and the adjacent Tourmaline Field in Okotoks. The Seaman Stadium Complex is widely recognized as one of Canada’s premier amateur baseball facilities and is home to the Okotoks Dawgs collegiate team of the Western Canadian Baseball League.
The return of the championship will welcome players, coaches, families, scouts and baseball supporters from across Canada to Okotoks and the Foothills region. In addition to delivering an outstanding national sporting event, the tournament is expected to generate meaningful economic activity for local hotels, restaurants and businesses while further strengthening Okotoks’ reputation within the baseball community.
Tickets for the event will go on sale October 1st at 10 a.m. on the Dawgs website at tickets.dawgsbaseball.ca. Additional information regarding regional qualifiers, participating teams, schedules and volunteer opportunities will be announced as it becomes available.
