The Dawgs Black etched their name into tournament history this past weekend, capturing the inaugural Morneau Cup championship with a dominant performance from start to finish.

After posting an impressive 6-1 record throughout the event, the Dawgs saved their best baseball for the playoff round. They opened the playoffs with a 5-2 victory over the Etobicoke Rangers in the quarterfinals before exploding offensively in a 14-4 semifinal win against Mississauga Tigers HPP. The championship game saw the Dawgs once again showcase their depth, defeating Sylvan Lake Gulls Prep 11-5 to claim the first-ever Morneau Cup title.

The Dawgs’ success was fueled by standout performances across the roster, with three players earning Tournament All-Star honours. Catcher Taye Thierman, a Coastal Carolina commit, was recognized for his leadership behind the plate and consistent offensive production. Infielder Kadyn Armitage, committed to Indiana University, was stellar at short stop all week and provided timely offsets all week. Infielder Cam Gerla, who is committed to Vernon College, provided a steady presence on both sides of the ball, while outfielder Louis-Charles Larouche earned all-star recognition following a memorable tournament performance including 3 home runs during tournament play.

Larouche added another chapter to his outstanding week by winning the inaugural Morneau Cup Home Run Derby. The talented outfielder launched 17 home runs across two rounds, belting seven in the opening round before putting on a show with 10 more in the final round to secure the title.

From timely hitting to dominant playoff performances, the Dawgs Black established themselves as worthy champions in the tournament’s inaugural year. With a talented core featuring collegiate commits and emerging stars, the Morneau Cup trophy was the perfect end to an unforgettable season of Dawgs baseball!
