Dear Dawgs Academy Parents, Players and Host Families,
Having regard to the evolving crisis respecting the COVID-19 virus, effective today, Monday, March 16, 2020, the Okotoks Dawgs facilities will be closed until April 2nd, 2020. This includes all amenities in the Duvernay Fieldhouse, Seaman Stadium and Tourmaline field. We have also decided that Dawgs teams will not be participating in the upcoming Best of the West tournaments scheduled for April 2nd through April 5th and April 16th through April 19th. In addition, the Dawgs will not be attending the Kelowna Invitational April 10ththrough April 12th.
We continue to be of the belief that aligning ourselves with the actions of Alberta Health Services (AHS) is the most responsible course of action as we work to manage the spread of COVID-19. Our first priority is the health and safety of all of our players, coaching staff and the entire Dawgs family.
Starting today, there will be no regular baseball activities which includes practice, workouts, meetings or any other training sessions at the facilities. All players are asked to retrieve their personal belongings on Monday, March 16th between 9 am and 6 pm or Tuesday, March 17th between 9 am and 6 pm (if you need to make alternate arrangements, please let me know).
Although we are taking precautions and determining a new normal, we are optimistic that we will still have a season this year, even if it has a late start from what we originally planned. We recognize all the hard work that everyone has put into making this year successful. Each individual has a lot to prepare for whether it be their freshman year of college, T12 in Toronto, provincial teams, the next level within the academy, etc.
As a coaching staff, we will work diligently to create at home workouts and training options as we continue to move the academy forward. I sincerely encourage all players to continue their development with the at-home training plans to be provided by the Dawgs coaching staff.
These are unique times and they will continue to evolve. We will keep you informed as best we can in the days ahead. Please follow the advice of the medical experts and stay healthy. The crisis will pass and we will get back to baseball as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Tyler Hollick
